Mwalimu Express is a live event that celebrates music from different African cities on the third Sundays of each month. Join the party at Rich Mix (2 - 6pm) this Sunday 16 September. The destination this month is Freetown, Sierra Leone.

DJ hosts Rita Ray and Max Reinhardt will be spinning tunes, and you can join Lucy Angel John's Parent and Toddler dance sessions. There will be music from Awale with the Oware Society as well as a film screening, market stalls, face painting , and of course delicious food and drinks.

Look out for friendly World Music Network staffer Dom, who will be selling CDs and T-Shirts at the event this Sunday.

Mwalimu Express will also host a screening of Reel Lives Sierra Leone at the Screen Station, starring storyteller and musician Usifu Jalloh who will take you on an inspirational journey through the lives of Freetown's children.

Among the other musical treates in store,  the palm-wine guitar hero and band leader Abdul Tee-Jay will perform. He soaked up the palm wine music of the legendary S.E. Rogie as a child in Freetown and started playing the guitar at the age of nine. He expanded his guitar playing skills in the USA, taking in hillbilly, bluegrass and the blues along the way. Abdul has reworked and revitalised classic palm-wine tunes and created genius new versions for his Palm Wine A-Go-Go album.

Mwalimu Express is brought to you by The Shrine and Screen Station!

If you can't make this Sunday, check out the next event of Mwalimu Express at Rich Mix on 21 October 2012. Destination: Oran, Algeria.
