There will be a launch party for ‘BalkanBeats SoundLab’, the first remix album by Robert Soko, the original inventor of the BalkanBeats genre. This event will take place on Saturday 20 October 2012, 10pm at The New Empowering Church, 1a Westgate Street, London E8 3RL. Advance tickets are £8 or £10 on the door. First come first served!
The launch party will feature Ziveli Orchestra a nine piece Turbo Brass Band with a French attitude, Robert Soko DJ Set, DJ Borzin (The Professor from the Scandinavian Lands) and Dr Malaka (The runner of the Turbo Brass Engine). There will be special guests as well as Rakija and Organic Cider drinks.
'BalkanBeats SoundLab' presents Robert Soko's very own hand-crafted debut series of remixes, in collaboration with his sidekick, 21st century gypsy Florian Mikuta. The album includes a variety of styles, from swing to Serbian and Romanian gypsy brass music with influences of electro, hip-hop, techno, disco and rock.
Bosnian-born, Berlin based DJ selector Robert Soko has been throwing parties in Berlin since 1993. He was the first to coin the term BalkanBeats to try and define his mix of music from the Balkans. BalkanBeats are Serbian Gypsy brass and folk melodies reinterpreted, given electronic beats and blended with western styles such as ska and rock. Alongside DJ residencies in Berlin, Robert Soko regularly DJs in London, Paris, Vienna and all over Europe, as well as further afield such as Japan, Mexico, Australia and the US.
