Kristi Stassinopoulou & Stathis Kalyviotis: Greekadelia - Live Album Launch + FREE Track
To warm fans up for the forthcoming release of Kristi Stassinopoulou and Stathis Kalyviotis, WMN is giving away a track from the album Greekadelia, to be released on the 18th of June. What's more, a live London date for the album launch has also been announced which will be presented by fRoots magazine. Following the success of the duo's previous collaboration, The Secrets of the Rocks which topped the World Music Charts for five consecutive months, Greekadelia is yet another project set to overwhelm the World of World Music.
Originating from Greece, Kristi and Stathis' music is deeply influenced by the folk styles from their home countries. As the title of the album might suggest, their music is however anything but traditional and preservationist. Greekadelia shape-shifts, twists and turns its listeners’ expectations, and plunges them deep into a new world of expression, characteristics perhaps more commonly attributed to psychedelic music.
As each track is inspired by a different Greek island or region, the album takes the listener on a journey throughout the country, highlighting different styles of demotika (Greek folk music) and some rebetika (old Greek urban music associated with the underclass) combined with electronic samples and instruments foreign to Greece such as the Indian harmonium. The sampled recording of a captain announcing his boat’s arrival at an island, announces the beginning of the musical voyage with ‘Matia San Kai Ta Dika Sou’. We want you to join us on this Greekadelic journey so we are giving away this opening track!
Live Album Launch
With Kristi on vocals, acoustic guitar, Indian harmonium, frame drums and small percussion and Stathis on laouto, live looping and groove sampler, the duo is a mesmerising live act. Their album launch will take place at the intimate The Green Note in Camden, UK on the 24th of July. The event is presented by fRoots magazine for whom they performed an astonishing live set at the Roundhouse in 2010 when the magazine celebrated its 30th birthday.
